1599fdT is happy to present Soft Coordinates, 1599fdT's first exhibition with paintings by Saif Azzuz, Chris Hood, Brian Longe, and Suzanne McClelland.
All four artists in the exhibition come from different backgrounds, styles, and stages in their careers. Drawing from elements of figuration, abstraction, and language, their works are not only visual statements but are also deeper aesthetic fields that point to larger questions concerning their role in contemporary painting.
Each artist incorporates a wide-ranging assortment of processes, materials, and techniques, where the abstract quality of these works is rendered by fragmented movements, glitched translations, and automatisms. Boundaries are challenged between figuration and abstraction, revealing that they can potentially exist simultaneously and equally occupy distinct aesthetic positions.
