1599fdT is thrilled to announce the opening of a two-person exhibition by artists Elias Hansen and Ajit Chauhan. Featuring a new collection of sculptures and works on paper, the exhibition considers the tenuous intersections between materiality and impermanence, precision and precariousness, evoking the delicacy of interconnected structures that oscillate between fragility and resilience. 

Elias Hansen’s installations embody a tension between the mass-produced and the handmade, the precious and the discarded. His compositions—delicately poised glass vessels, raw-cut wood, and industrial remnants—suggest a world in flux, where stability is an illusion and collapse is imminent. The precarious arrangement of materials, often balanced at the edge of disorder, challenges traditional sculptural permanence, offering instead an experience of suspended uncertainty. In Hansen’s work, the act of assembling and arranging becomes a gesture of both control and relinquishment, mirroring the fragile networks that sustain and threaten contemporary existence.

Ajit Chauhan’s practice similarly engages with states of transience and the passage of time. Using found postcards, Chauhan painstakingly erases, scrapes, and exposes layers beneath their glossy surfaces to reveal an almost spectral presence—a spiderweb, meticulously rendered through removal rather than addition. His intervention subverts the romanticized imagery of flowers, transforming them into markers of fleeting beauty and ephemeral moments. The web, an index of both labor and delicacy, functions as a threshold between what was and what remains, inviting viewers to reconsider the act of seeing itself. Chauhan’s work does not merely depict time’s erosion; it materializes it.

Together, Elias and Ajit weave a dialogue on the vulnerability of materials, histories, and the unseen structures that hold them together.
